Level 2 in Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry
This qualification can only be undertaken by learners aged 18yrs old or over.
This course is suitable for anyone thinking of working as a SIA Security Guard. The Private Security Act 2001 made it a legal requirement for anyone working in the private security sector to complete a mandatory training programme before applying for their Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence.
After successful completion of this course, and passing the required knowledge checks, candidates will be able to apply to the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for a Security Guard licence.
Lancashire College of Further Education (LCFE) is one of the UK’s leading Security training providers for the BETC Level 2 in Lancashire and throughout the UK.
The candidates will gain knowledge related to the Private Security industry, all relevant legislation, procedures and practices. They will develop skills in conflict management and learn about the role, duties and responsibilities of a Security Officer. The course will cover patrolling, searching procedures, reporting and record keeping.
This course fulfils and meets all the purposes placed down by the Security Industry Authority, and upon successful completion the candidates are able to achieve a licence to practice.
The course is planned to teach candidates to work within the Security Industry. Even though no formal qualifications are required, individuals need to have the capacity to read and write at literacy Level 2 and must possess an ESOL qualification at Entry 3 or higher. (e.g. Level 1 or 2).
Candidates without the correct ID requirements will not be able to complete the course.Candidates must bring the correct ID as per SIA Requirements which will be detailed on candidates joining instructions.

- Communication Skills and Customer Care in the Private Security Industry.
Unit 2 Working as a Security Officer
- The role of a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry.
- Controlling access and egress to a site.
- Searching procedures.
- Technology, security and monitoring systems in the security environment.
- Law and its relevance to the Security Officer.
- Reporting, recording and record keeping.
Unit 3 Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry.
- Recognising and Assessing risks.
- Communication Skills.
- De-escalating conflict situations.
- Resolving conflict.
- Post incident considerations.
The candidates will cover for modules and must complete and pass units 3 modules, in order to achieve the Level 2 in Security Guarding.
This course run over 3 days, and candidates will obtain 3 credits.
Successful candidates will achieve a BTEC Level 2 in Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry.
