Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a qualification for those who already teach in the adult teaching sector but do not have a formal qualification. It requires a minimum of 30 teaching hours.
This qualification is suitable for those who are already teaching and those who support teachers, tutors and trainers as well as those who wish to teach in the future. The course will enable learners to gain knowledge and understanding of the teaching role and learn the principles and practices in the adult education sector. Learners are not required to have undertaken any teaching previously, and are not required to have achieved a Level 3 Award in Education and Training before undertaking this qualification.
Learners who already have some teaching or supporting role experience can apply to have the credit transferred against the first unit in the Certificate, Understand Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training. Those wishing to join this qualification should undertake an initial assessment of skills in English, mathematics and ICT.
Course Description/ Content
The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training has been designed for teachers to teach in a wide range of contexts and develop practical teaching skills. To achieve this qualification, there is a requirement for teaching practice that requires observation and assessment of performance. The qualification meets the needs of a range of trainee teachers and trainers. Some of the topics that will be covered include Initial Assessment of Learner’s Needs, Lesson/Session Plan construction, Teaching and Learning Activities and how to use.
Leaners must achieve 21 credits from the mandatory units listed below:
- Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
- Planning to Meet the Needs of Learners in Education and Training
- Delivering Education and Training
- Assessing Learners in Education and Training
- Using Resources for Education and Training
They must further achieve 15 credits from an optional 29 units.
Course Duration/Credit Value
The course has a Credit Value of 36. Leaners must do a minimum of 140 guided learning hours and 30 hours of teaching practice.
There will be a minimum of three observations totalling a minimum of three hours
Any single observation will last a minimum of half an hour. To pass learners must provide adequate evidence to meet all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
All successful candidates will achieve the BTEC Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training.
Learners who have achieved the BTEC Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training can progress onto the BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
