Learners who are new to computers and technology.
You will learn to:
• Turn a computer on and off safely
• Use a mouse, keyboard, and basic touchscreen functions
• Identify simple parts of a computer (screen, keyboard, printer, etc.)
• Open, save, and print documents
• Use basic software (like Word or Paint)
• Understand what the internet is and how to stay safe online
Learners who have some basic computer skills and want to do more on their own.
You will learn to:
• Create and edit simple documents
• Use folders to save and organise files
• Search for information online safely and effectively
• Send and receive emails with attachments
• Use simple graphics or presentation tools
• Understand online safety and data protection
Learners who are comfortable using computers and want to prepare for work or further study.
You will learn to:
• Create and format documents using word processing software
• Enter and edit data in simple spreadsheets
• Create short presentations using PowerPoint or similar tools
• Use the internet for research and online forms
• Send professional emails
• Understand basic digital security (passwords, privacy settings)
Learners who want to use ICT effectively at work or in study — roughly equivalent to GCSE grade D–E (3).
You will learn to:
• Use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with confidence
• Manage files and folders efficiently
• Search, evaluate, and use online information safely
• Communicate via email and online platforms professionally
• Create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations for work or study
• Understand cloud storage, online collaboration, and file sharing
Learners who want higher-level digital skills for professional, academic, or technical work — equivalent to GCSE grade 4–5 (C).
You will learn to:
• Produce professional documents and reports
• Use advanced spreadsheet features (formulas, charts, data analysis)
• Design and deliver professional presentations
• Manage online communication tools (email groups, video meetings)
• Use digital tools for problem-solving and project management
• Understand cybersecurity and responsible digital behaviour
Assessment is usually task-based and practical, rather than just theoretical.
You will complete activities such as:
• Creating and editing documents
• Using spreadsheets and formulas
• Searching for and presenting information
• Sending emails and managing files
• Demonstrating safe and responsible internet use
There are no long written exams — you show your skills by doing real tasks on a computer.
