What SIA course do I need to take to become a licensed security guard or door supervisor?
If you want to work in pubs, clubs, or events, you need the SIA Door Supervisor course.
If you want to work in shops, offices, or as a static guard, you can take the Security Guard course.
The Door Supervisor licence covers both roles, so it’s usually the better option.
How long does the SIA course take to complete?
Most courses take 5 to 6 days (depending on provider and schedule).
• Door Supervisor: about 6 days
• Security Guard: about 5 days
• CCTV (Public Space Surveillance): about 3- 4 days

What is the total cost of the course, and does it include the SIA licence application fee?
Training costs usually depend on location and course type.
The SIA licence application is separate and costs £184 (paid to the SIA).
Is the course classroom-based or can I do part of it online?
Most providers require in-person attendance because the course includes practical assessments and ID checks. Some theory parts can be done online beforehand.
What qualifications or documents do I need before enrolling?
• Be 18 years old or over
• Have proof of right to work in the UK
• Provide a valid photo ID (passport, driving licence, etc.)
• Have basic English reading and writing skills
What ID do I need to bring on the first day of training?
You’ll need two forms of ID (one photographic, one proof of address) — e.g.
• Passport or driving licence
• Utility bill or bank statement (under 3 months old)
